Tents can be categorized by the seasons they are suitable for: summer tents, three-season tents, and four-season tents. Summer tents are designed exclusively for summer use and are typically made of pure mesh fabric. Three-season tents are suitable for spring, summer, and fall, while four-season tents can be used year-round.
Three-season tents are generally suitable for milder weather conditions. They offer adequate rain protection but struggle with heavy snowfall and do not match the wind resistance of four-season tents. Four-season tents are designed for complex weather environments and harsh conditions. They typically incorporate 1-2 additional poles to enhance wind resistance, and their support systems can withstand stronger winds or heavier snow accumulation. Additionally, winter tents are often designed with a smooth dome shape to minimize flat surfaces on the flysheet, preventing snow accumulation. Four-season tents are generally not excessively tall, featuring a streamlined silhouette to reduce wind resistance.
